Dettol Banega Swasth India

One World Hygiene

Background

Despite public health progress, hygiene remains one of India’s most overlooked behavioural challenges. Since 2014, Dettol Banega Swasth India has worked to make hygiene a way of life – and ten years on, its mission remains unchanged.

The Approach

Position hygiene as a fundamental right, not just a habit – shaping a narrative that demands inclusion in health and policy agendas.

Leverage high-visibility occasions like Global Handwashing Day to transform symbolic events into lasting hygiene movements.

Partner with trusted voices and public figures to make hygiene visible, relatable and a national priority, driving influence through credibility.

Use advocacy, storytelling and partnerships to drive hygiene awareness across homes, schools and public discourse.

The Impact

Nationwide Impact: Mobilized 30 million children across 29 states and 7 UTs through a 100+ partner coalition , driving hygiene education at scale.

Innovative Engagement: Launched Dettol Hygieia Chatbot (in 7 languages) and interactive tools like Dettol Hygieia: The game to make hygiene learning accessible and fun.

On-Ground & Institutional Reach: Reached 4.5 million people via India's largest wash programme, educated 25,000+ students through climate-resilient school initiatives and India's first school hygiene podcast.
