Technicians to the Front, Thanks to Gatsby Foundation

Background

Where would we be without technicians? The lack of young people choosing technical education meant the UK might find out the hard way. To show the power of technical education, Gatsby Foundation asked us to shine a light on the contributions technicians make every single day.

The Approach: Technicians, We Make the Difference

We. built a campaign strategy to support the opening of an immersive, hands-on digital experience addressing the gaps in our audience’s knowledge and building trust in the idea of a technical education. Work extended across market research, brand identity, a new website, and hosted interactive experiences. Over 60 role-focused films and 100 detailed story pages brought the variety and diversity of technician opportunities to life.

The Impact: Valuing Technician Careers

The campaign challenged young people to see which technician roles best suit them while building problem-solving skills. With resources for youth, parents, teachers and careers advisors, Technicians, We make the difference shifted a national narrative to the positive: A technical education leads to great things for you and society.

As part of the wider campaign, 77% of those who saw the campaign thought they could be a technician. And those who saw the campaign were 2.3x more likely to consider a career as a technician.

“I love engineering and physics and the idea of a heavy object flying is the most amazing physics in action, so I knew that’s what I wanted to be involved in!”
