About:

The 2020s has been labelled the era of 'Super News'. The decade started with the first global pandemic in over 100 years, which was followed by war in Europe and an ever-escalating crisis in the Middle East, all of which has dominated large swathes of the media that PR's normally target.

2024 will be the busiest year for news yet. The UK and USA will both hold long-awaited elections with campaigns that are expected to be divisive and bitter. Globally, 4.2 billion consumers will be offered the change to go to the ballot box in what is a record year for democracy.

AI will continue to innovate, as policymakers consider how best to regulate this emerging technology. 2024 will also see the world approach halfway in The United Nations 'Decade of Ecosystem Regulation' – a critical juncture in the history of the planet.

All of this is happening against the backdrop of a global news industry facing existential challenges as it battles TikTok and Instagram for the Gen Z eyeballs that will assure its future.

So, what does this all mean to communications teams on a day-to-day basis? When the world is so loud and the space is so tight how do you cut through with your news?

What are the new rules of engagement?
