Reimagining PE: Helping Girls Build Confidence Through Movement

Hintergrund

With girls’ wellbeing in decline and 55% missing daily activity targets, PE is often their only chance to get moving—yet many feel excluded. Studio You, created by We. together with Sport England, is transforming PE, making movement inclusive, empowering and fun to help every girl enjoy being active.

The Approach: Creating a Platform Designed by Girls, for Girls

Developed with girls and teachers, Studio You breaks down barriers to getting active. Funded by over £2m from Sport England via the National Lottery and driven by the ethos of This Girl Can, it offers 100+ video lessons, tips and guidance to make PE more fun.

In 2025, partnering with Nike, we strengthened Studio You’s role as an uplifting intervention for girls’ physical and emotional wellbeing. Through inclusive design and real-world insight, we co-created content with girls who felt PE wasn’t for them—showing that movement can be joyful, calming and energising, helping more girls feel confident to get active.

The Impact: Delivering Lasting Results Through Long-Term Commitment

Studio You is insight-driven and evaluated annually to meet the needs of girls and teachers.

Since launch, it has reached 722,177 girls, with 93% reporting greater enjoyment of physical activity and 94% of PE teachers seeing improved engagement among less active students. The Nike partnership drove a 64% rise in registrations and a 106% increase in video views, with earned media reaching over 7.5 million people, including BBC 5Live.

Beyond the numbers, the programme’s impact is deeply personal—as one student shared, it has “massively improved my self-confidence” and helped her feel less alone.

"Working with We. has been energising - their commitment to empower girls to lead the way has made Studio You a powerful tool for PE teachers across England."
